Welcome to the Suffolk Baxter website

This web site is dedicated to the members of the Baxter clan who I have met and are no longer with us and those who I have yet to meet.

Back in 2000 my brother and I started to trace our roots following family myth and legend. We are still searching for the elusive Scottish connection and the ancestor who owned an Irish castle! Neither of us will ever forget standing in the grave yard at North Cove in front of our first Baxter grave, a strange mixture of excitement and feeling weak at the knees.

Some of the data I have included is down to guess work and assumption and until proven wrong shall leave as is. I have not included dates of birth after 1916. This web site is not an exhaustive search, the majority of the data comes from parish registers, census returns, births, marriages and death certificates and directories. There are still a large number of avenues available to still research, old newspapers, wills, non conformist records and the such like.

Clicking on the links will either take you forward to that person’s history or take you backwards to their parents history.

All updates, changes, additions gratefully received.

I have researched the following places: Alderton, Ashbocking, Barnby, Benacre, Benhall, Beccles, Blundeston, Blythburgh, Burgh, Carlton Colville, Clopton, Covehithe, Ellough, Eyke, Framlingham, Fressingfield, Frostenden, Gisleham, Grundisburgh, Halesworth, Hasketon, Heveningham, Hoxne, Kessingland, Kettleburgh, Kirkley, Linstead, Leiston, Lowestoft, Melton, Mutford, North Cove, Orford, Oulton, Pakefield, Rendham, Reydon, Rushmere, Saxmundham, Shadingfield, Somerleyton, Sotterley, South Cove, Southwold, Stoven, Sutton, Tannington Thorington, Ufford, Uggeshall, Wangford, Wenhaston, Westhall, Wickham Market, Wisset, Woodbridge, Worlingham and Wrentham.
