The living of St Andrew is a discharge vicarage annexed to the rectory of Barnby.

What happened to the children of William Baxter and Elizabeth Whiting of Mutford?

John Baxter (1799 - 1872)

John moved to the village of Barnby (1 mile west) where he raised his family. The last mention of the family being in England is the 1851 census. The family settled near Geneva NY, and lived on the corner of Lake and Evan streets. John was a tile and brick maker for J. B. Dixon. In 1862 he bought a farm of around 30 acres, 5 miles west of Geneva.

Marriage

John married Mary Ann Wrigth (1802 - 1878) possibly the daughter of Samuel Wright and Elizabeth Goddard. From the parish records of Mutford:

"John Baxter single man and Mary Ann Wright Single woman, both of this parish married 16th July 1827 in the presence of William Baxter and Sarah Peachy."

Petty Session Lowestoft Wednesday September 4th
Charge of Assault – Sarah Ann Baxter, wife of Robert Baxter, Carlton Colville, was charged with assaulting Rose Kellington, of the place on the 31st August.
Complainant, who gave her evidence very quietly, said that she was getting a pail of water when defendant came up to her and accused her of saying something about her husband, when complainant totally denied, and this raised defendants ire and she up with her hand and struck her in the face.
Defendant with great warmth, denied the insinuation, and a neighbour, who witnesses the transaction only two yards off all the while, having stated no blow was struck at all, the Bench dismissed the case.

Fatal Accident at sea – On Monday afternoon shortly before three o’clock, the White Rose fishing lugger, of this port, put to sea, but before she has lost sight of land the wind suddenly chopped around to the NW blowing hard.  The sails were set and the spinmaker was caught with great violence, tearing the sails to shreds, and one of the crew, a young man named William Baxter, of Mutford, was knocked overboard, as it was impossible from the seething sea to do anything to save him.
